Presentación / Intro

La intención de este blog es promover información acerca del calentamiento global, y principalmente, modos para contrarrestarlo, asi como ser una unión con varias fuentes de información. Tendrá publicaciones en inglés y español, dependiendo de la fuente, pues no tengo tiempo para traducir. Es un blog de acción, pues se enfoca en cosas que hacer, más que en información pasiva. No dejes pasar más tiempo, es ahora, no tendremos otra oportunidad, sólo tenemos unos cuantos años, la Tierra es nuestra casa.
This blog´s intention is to promote information about global warming, and mainly, ways to counteract it, as well as to be a link to various sources of information. It will display posts in english and spanish, depending on their source, since I don´t have time to translate. It is an action blog, since it focuses on things to do, rather than passive information. Don't let more time pass, this is it, we won´t have another chance, we only have a few years, the Earth is our house.

Todo lo que hacemos implica de alguna forma emisiones de Co2, bioxido de carbono, el principal causante del calentamiento global. Debemos tratar de reducirlas al máximo, si se puede, neutralizarlas, o incluso contrarrestar más de lo que producimos. Las dos primeras ligas nos permiten calcular nuestras emisiones. La tercera es un sitio donde podemos donar para plantar árboles, una forma de combatir el Co2. Cada arbol cuesta 10c de dolar, asi que con 100-150 dolares podemos compensar las emisiones de Co2 de toda tu vida!! Según mi cálculo, yo produzco entre 14 y 15 toneladas de Co2 al año. Aproximadamente, un árbol maduro absorbe una tonelada de Co2 en toda su vida. Esto quiere decir que yo tendría que plantar 15 árboles cada año. Pero tomando en cuenta los años que no he plantado, que después de los 60+ , no voy a plantar más, y los que no crezcan, entonces el número asciende a 20 árboles que debo plantar por año; 2 por mes. Aqui esta una solución. No muy difícil. Para ser realmente responsables, plantemos árboles. Hay suficiente espacio en todas partes.

Everything we do involves in some way Co2 (carbon dioxide) emissions, the main cause for global warming. We have to try to reduce them at maximum, if possible neutralize them, or even counteract more than we produce. The first two links let us calculate our emissions. The third is a site where we can donate to plant trees, a way of fighting Co2. Each tree costs 10us cents, so with a 100-150 dollars you can compensate your life's Co2 emissions!! According to my calculation, I produce between 14 and 15 tons of Co2 per year. Aproximately, a mature tree absorves 1 ton of Co2 in all its lifetime. This means that I would have to plant 15 trees every year. But taking into account the years that I have not planted, that after 60+ I am not going to plant anymore, and the ones that won't grow, then the number rises to 20 trees that I have to plant per year; 2 per month. Here is a solution. Not too difficult. To be trully responsible, let's plant trees. There is enough space everywhere.

Autos Eléctricos

Sorpresivamente en unas semanas las compañías líderes en producción de automóviles cambiaron radicalmente y anunciaron el inicio de la era de auto eléctrico por encima de los híbridos que se habían anunciado el año pasado.
Primero fue GM, que en el aniversario de los 100 años de la compañía anunció la construcción en serie del Chevy Volt, modelo eléctrico para venderse en 2010.
Y es que con el alza de la gasolina, el cambio climático a causa de la quema de combustibles fósiles, y la crisis financiera, las compañías que registraron pérdidas todo el año, ahora cambian sus estrategias.
Los tres autos eléctricos presentados por Chrysler son el Dodge EV, el Jeep EV y el Chrysler EV.
El Dodge EV es un deportivo de tracción trasera y capacidad para dos personas con un motor eléctrico de 200 kilovatios (con 268 hp) y una batería avanzada de litio-ion. Tendrá una velocidad superior a los 190 kilómetros por hora. El Jeep EV tiene un motor eléctrico y el sistema de baterías de litio-ion con un motor de gasolina que recargará las baterías.
Falta aún la reacción de las firmas europeas y japonesas, que no se quedarán atrás.
Lo mejor de todo es que pronto circularán los autos eléctricos en Estados Unidos y seguramente en México. No serán de bajo costo, pero contaminan menos y como la electricidad es más económica que la gasolina, con el tiempo se recupera la inversión. http://www.milenio.com/node/85767

La gran diferencia entre el proyecto de GM y el de las demas armadoras como Dodge, Toyota, Honda y otras es que estas empresas estan produciendo autos hybridos paralelo, donde el auto es impulsado por energia electrica cuando vas a baja velocidad y por combustion de gasolina cuando aumentas la velocidad o despues de cierto tiempo. El auto que GM esta ya produciendo es el primer auto verdaderamente electrico donde todas las llantas son impulsados por motores electricos, el auto todavia se le llama hybrido, pero en serie, porque la diminuta maquina de combustion de gasolina que tiene en su interior no impulsa ni mueve ninguna llanta, solamente se utiliza para generar mas electricidad cuando las baterias del auto llegen a niveles bajos. Supuestamente el auto electrico Volt de GM nos permite viajar mas de 60 km sin gastar una sola gota de gasolina y continua despues generando su propia electricidad a partir de un motor de gasolina.
Por otro lado, alguna gente se esta llevando la idea equivocada de que los autos electricos van a ser super carisimos, debido a que el Volt de la GM va a tener un precio en el rango de 30 a 40 mil dolares. Si bien es un auto caro, no lo es tanto porque sea electrico sino por todas las demas cosas que el auto en si incluye, claramente GM ni ninguna otra armadora cometerian el error de introducir un auto con tanta tecnologia en un concepto generico y barato. GM comenzara a producir autos mas economicos y accesibles utilizando el mismo motor E-Flex que impulsa al Volt.
